HIGH TECH PETROLS…
Astra comes with a wide
range of brilliantly efficient,
multi-valve petrol engines.
The well-respected Twinport
1.4
i 16v and 1.6i 16v models
feature a variable intake
manifold for high performance
and fuel efficiency, and
low emissions.
The new 1.8i 16v VVT unit,
producing an impressive
140
PS, uses Variable Valve
Timing technology to much
the same affect. And then
there’s the 2.0i 16v Turbo
petrol engine, with its
water-cooled turbo-charger
and intercooler, and available
in two versions – a hot 170PS
and extra-hot 200PS!
AND EFFICIENT DIESELS
The hot ticket in diesel engines
is common-rail fuel injection.
All fourAstra diesels – the sporty
1.9
CDTi (120PS and 150PS), the
100
PS 1.7CDTi and the 90PS
1.3
CDTi – feature common rail
diesel technology and the results
are clear. Superior performance
and economy, tough emissions
control and low benefit in kind
company car tax.
TRANSMISSION CHOICE
In addition to the five- and
six-speed manual gearboxes,
Astra is also available with a
five-speed Easytronic and
both four- and six-speed
automatics. And all 1.3CDTi,
1.9
CDTi diesels and 2.0i 16v
Turbo petrol models come with
a six-speed manual, helping
you make the most of their
incredible potential.
EASYTRONIC TRANSMISSION
Choose the optional Easytronic transmission and you’ll get a five-speed
manual gearbox with a fully automatic mode. In manual mode, you
simply push the lever forward or back to shift gears up or down. The
facia display tells you what gear you’re in – 1 to 5, N for Neutral or A for
Auto. Switch to fully automatic mode and it has many of the features
of a regular automatic including a kickdown function. There’s no clutch
pedal so you can drive it on an automatic-only driving licence.
